The above questionnaires were used in helping me find my learning style and my teaching style, and here are the results.
I learn by seeing, doing, and discussing the concept. I like to know the big idea before learning, but also like to learn sequentially. I like to learn in a group where we can think and discuss it together. I don't pay attention to closely to facts and I need to be careful to read the whole question before answering. I also need to check my results before being done.
I teach by showing and promoting self-learning through guided discovery and inquiry-based lessons. I came to this realization by scoring: Expert-moderate, Formal Authority-high, Personal Model-high, Facilitator-high, and Delegator-high.
As I reflect on these results I have made a list of things I need to work on and remind myself to be aware of when planning. This will help me to plan lessons where all students will have the opportunities to learn their way and be successful. Here is my need to work on list...
I need to include facts not just theories for my students who like to memorize facts.
I need to not focus on visual representations of information and ignore verbal representations. Let students read about the concept, because some of them like and learn more from reading.
I need to give students ample opportunity to reflect and just think about the new concept before asking them to show me what they know.
I need to do more than just model expectation, not all students learn from seeing it done.
I need to stay focused on objectives while blending teaching styles with class personalities, interests, and curriculum appropriateness. Doing this will help me meet student needs while helping students to develop critical-thinking, questioning, exploration and problem solving skills.
I'm grateful for the opportunity to take a look at my learning styles and teaching styles. I was able to reflect and see where the gaps in my teaching may occur and how I can be aware of them when planning to better benefit students in their learning styles. #silvasciencesquad
