Super Humans Lesson

I was very excited to present the super human information to the students. It is a fun topic and I hoped it would get students excited to learn about the human body. I was super pleased with the students engagement and conversations during the lesson, and would change where we go next in the plan. The following questions and answers will tell you why I was happy with the students and the lesson, and why I would change the plan from here on. What did I learn? I  learned that students can have awesome behavior and do amazing work when they are excited and engaged in a topic. The super human subject matter really intrigued the students. They were excited to talk about supers, watch the video, and then research why they were special. They were able to make connections between the super humans and animals in nature. This connection and research diffidently helped them to make predictions of what was going on in the super humans body that makes them have the super power...
How does my personality affect my relationships with students? First, lets look at my personality type per the test I took at the following link...  http://www.teamtechnology.co.uk/mmdi/questionnaire/ . I found out that I go between the following two personality types, ENFJ and ESFJ. This means that I seek to promote personal growth in myself and others. I see people for their potential and seek to find harmony in relationships.  I also like cooperation and I am a good team player. I recognize people for their contributions and encourage others to be their best. I like to find and point out common ground in people to help them get along. This was the conclusion after I answered the question favoring toward one personality type or a balance between them. I answered more towards being an extrovert, liking action and saying my ideas as they come to me. I was a balance between sensing and intuition, favoring the idea of possibilities. I very much favored using feeling by bein...
How does my learning and teaching styles affect my students? http://www.engr.ncsu.edu/learningstyles/ilsweb.html http://longleaf.net/teachingstyle.html The above questionnaires were used in helping me find my learning style and my teaching style, and here are the results. I learn by seeing, doing, and discussing the concept. I like to know the big idea before learning, but also like to learn sequentially.  I like to learn in a group where we can think and discuss it together. I don't pay attention to closely to facts and I need to be careful to read the whole question before answering. I also need to check my results before being done. I teach by showing and promoting self-learning through guided discovery and inquiry-based lessons. I came to this realization by scoring: Expert-moderate, Formal Authority-high, Personal Model-high, Facilitator-high, and Delegator-high. As I reflect on these results I have made a list of things I need to work on and remind myself to be aware of wh...
All About Me Hello! My name is Heather Sayre-Silva and I teach 7th grade science at Alpine Vista Elementary School in Tulare, CA. My path to becoming an educator is an unconventional one, however I love that my life has led me to teaching science to middle school students. I come from a long line of educators. Both of my grandmothers were educators, along with my mother. Teaching is in our blood I guess, so it isn't surprising that 3 out of 9 children went into teaching. It was not my plan to become a teacher. I mean who wants to become their mother?  Just kidding, love you mom! After graduating high school I went to college to be an accountant. Then one day I realized I was going to sit in an office all day, how boring. So, I changed my major to agriculture business. Agriculture meant I would be outside riding tractors right? Once I was almost finished with my bachelors degree I realized I was going to sit in an office all day. My family didn't own land or a farm for me to...
